My paintings come from my channeled visions. Each painting has spiritual, metaphysical or psychological message in connection to nature and humanity. Trees have a human quality and humans don’t exist as if the paintings are of earth, long after man has become extinct or landscapes of other worlds or other dimensions. The horizontal “leaf” mass could be leaves or the tree’s energy or both.
I maintain a minimal color palette to evoke disquiet and a feeling that the landscapes are not of this world. Yet, the paintings feel meditative and peaceful. The combination gives them an unnerving edge.
Each painting has a poem, which is its story. While I am painting, I hear words that give me an idea of what the painting is about. When the painting is complete, I meditate on the painting’s image. I write down words as they come through me. When the words stop coming, I read the words out loud to myself to grasp what I’ve just written. Then I edit and tweak the words until I feel they work as a poetic statement. My paintings with their poems are messages from earth to humanity.
In my poetry, trees and nature speak their mind about how they are treated by humans and the effect this treatment has on them. They share their hopes, dreams, fears, desires and premonitions about the human condition and the precarious situation facing our planet’s survival. There is an apocalyptic thread through my work, which is a wake-up call for humanity.
I feel that I have been given this work because there is a great urgency for it to be shared in order to help raise humanity’s consciousness, to treat earth and all animals with love and respect. This is so important for the future of our existence.
